School Choir Wins at Carrickfergus Festival!

13th May 2018

On Friday 11th May, Woodlawn Primary School had the fantastic opportunity to compete in the Carrickfergus Festival. This prestigious event has run for over 100 years and has been the starting point for many of today's famous musicians such as singer/songwriter Katie Melua and pianist Barry Douglas.

The choir prepared by Miss Whiteside and conducted on the day by Mrs Edwards were accompanied by Mr Blair. They competed in Class Four- The Primary School Choir section against very stiff competition from local schools.

Opening with ' I am the Wind' by Lin Marsh and completing their performance with the traditional song 'The Star of County Down' our choir wowed adjudicator Jonathan Rea that not only did they win their class but were awarded the Lowry Prize for being the best choir in the festival for 2018.

This was an amazing honour and one the children will remember for a long time to come.

We look forward to sharing more opportunities to hear our choir sing in the very near future.
